Edward William Flannigan

Edward W. Flannigan, 74, of Mercer, passed away on April 3, 2026, at home surrounded by family. Born in Ridgway, PA, on May 20, 1951, to Edward and Elizabeth E. (Condon) Flannigan, Ed was a 1974 graduate of Penn State University and spent many years working for CDR/Flint Inc. He was also a member of the Elks and a proud Mason.

Ed was a passionate football fan, particularly of the Penn State Nittany Lions, and enjoyed coaching teams in both Ridgway and Mercer. Above all, he took great pride in coaching his son during his wrestling career. In July 1972, Ed married Jane E. Thorwart, with whom he has shared nearly 60 years.

Ed is survived by his wife, Jane; his daughter, Amy Deitz; three grandchildren, Kaitlin (Erich) Boehm, Logan (Julianne) Deitz, and Eben Deitz; his sister, Edwina (Michael) Engel; his brother-in-law, Dennis McMahon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Brian W. Flannigan; his parents; two sisters, Micki Pfingstler and Patty McMahon; and his brother-in-law, Dale Pfingstler.

A graveside blessing will be held at St. Leo’s Cemetery in Ridgway, PA, on Friday, April 10, at 1:00 PM.
