William Long Paden

William L. "Bill" Paden, 83, of Greenville, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 28, 2026, with his loving family at his side, his loyal dog Max by his bed, and the soft sounds of Roy Orbison playing on the radio.

Bill was born and raised in Greenville on December 9, 1942, to the late William C. and Nellie Paden. A man of exceptional work ethic, Bill dedicated 40 years of service to the Greenville Steel Car company until its closing, and later spent another 17 years working hard for PennDOT.

For 52 beautiful years, Bill was married to the love of his life, Margaret "Peggy" Paden, who preceded him in death in 2024. Together, they shared a deep passion for classic cars and took immense pride in showcasing their 1934 Ford Coupe at countless car shows over the years. Bill was also a fixture in the local dirt track racing community. He owned several race cars over the years that were proudly piloted by his youngest son, Andy, and he took great pride in watching his oldest son, William, become a car owner as well. In later years, nothing brought him more joy than watching his grandsons race and carry on the family tradition.Bill leaves behind a rich legacy of love, hard work, and family. 

He is survived by his oldest son, William J. Paden and his wife Molly of Hermitage, PA; and his youngest son, Andy Paden and his fiancee Rachel, also of Hermitage, PA. He was the proud grandfather of three grandsons: Dr. Zachary Paden and his wife Kassandra of Salt Lake City, UT; Alex Paden, currently in Kazakhstan; and Robert Paden and his wife Kathleen of Transfer, PA. He also leaves behind his cherished two-year-old twin great-grandchildren, Hunter and Grace Paden.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Peggy; his parents, William and Nellie; his infant son, Benjamin Paden; and his sister, Suzanne Casto.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a local animal shelter of your choice in Bill’s memory.
